about

"Goto is a record that I have lived with for a long time; I asked Fashion Flesh to help me on some tracks because I love his work and collaborations with Matmos, Cornelius & Momus. David Fenech sang the Goto song. He's a good  friend and a prominent figure of the French improvised music scene. My wife Florence Manlik who designed the cover, can be heard on some songs. Goto is narrative, meditative; it's a travel with an electronic donkey, where the fern tree line at the top of the mountains is nothing but a miniature…" (Toog)

French-born (from Mulhouse) artist Toog is a musician, a poet and a director. He started his musical career when he met the widely venerated scottish artist Momus. They went on extensive tours together (USA & Japan), playing almost 150 shows. Le Grand Magistery (Wasabi/Bmg) releases Toog's debut album "6633" in the USA, followed by "Easy Toog for beginners". Etienne Jaumet, a recent Domino signature, can be heard playing saxophone on both albums.
After his flight from Paris to New York (CMJ Festival) was cancelled (09/11), Toog imagine "Lou Etendue" with Asia Argento (Karaoke Kalk, 2004); an album about love during times of terrorism, inspired by French poet-soldier Apollinaire's "Poems to Lou". In 2008, Toog shot his first movie "Prélude au sommeil" ("Prelude to sleep"), a wonderful documentary about the French electronic music pioneer Jean-Jacques Perrey. It was shown on various festivals such as CIMM (Chicago; march 2010).
Toog's new album "Goto" is a collection of musical ideas, references, nostalgia and gags. A background noise with coarse exaggerations. Madness and graceful lightness go hand in hand. Whistles and explicit statements ("Traffic Jam") try a balancing act between humour and serious contemplation of particular events ("My House"). A musical diary, reflecting memorable encounters, experiences and oddities.

"Goto kind of comes off like a soundtrack for a psychedelic exploitation movie, which is probably fitting for an album that was exploitative in and on itself."
(Asia Argento)"

about

Toog Paris, France

Following tours alongside Momus and Kahimi Karie (USA, Europe and Japan), Toog released his debut album '6633' in 1999, followed by 'Easy Toog for Beginners' (2001). Toog drew the idea of his 3rd album ‘Lou Etendue’ from Apollinaire (Poems to Lou), combined with how he felt open meeting actress and film director Asia Argento around the time of the 9/11 disaster...
